Worship

St. Peder’s has one worship service at 9:00 a.m. One Sunday a month in June, July and August, weather permitting, we gather on the north lawn for outdoor worship. Large print and Braille bulletins are available.

Communion

The Lord’s table is open to all who wish to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. On the first Sunday of every month, communion is part of all worship services. At the time of communion, an usher will direct you. Those not yet communing may come forward for a blessing.

Children

Activity bags for small children can be found in the entrance hall. Children are also welcome in the nursery, which is staffed during 9:00 a.m. worship by member volunteers.

Faith Formation

All members and visitors are welcome to participate in Christian education classes. During the traditional school year, youth and children’s faith formation classes are offered – all begin worship together and the children leave after the children’s message for age appropriate lessons on the scripture heard that week. Sunday School does not meet on the first Sunday of the month as families are encouraged to take communion together during worship. St. Peder’s also has a library and hosts book discussions, a Pub Theology group, a Bible study on Tuesday evenings, and occasional speakers and forums.

St. Peder’s is part of the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis, MN just a few blocks west of the Mississippi River.  The church is located at the corner of 42nd Street and and 46th Avenue  Parking is available in the lot and on neighboring streets.

We believe in our mission statement: Rooted in our heritage and embracing the future, we joyfully live the gospel with open hearts, open hands and open doors.

St. Peder’s uses a liturgical form of worship, rooted in tradition, that prepares us for a life of faith in the present, and helps us imagine a future where all are welcomed, loved, and provided for. As such, worship is both an action and a training for what we do outside our walls.

St. Peder’s is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation, affirming the welcome of God to all persons regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, or ethnicity.

Everyone who comes has a part to play in worship, through singing, prayers, and learning together. But many people volunteer to assist in worship in specific ways, such as ushering, greeting others, reading prayers and lessons, singing in the choir or with special music, serving communion, and more. We believe worship is an event for all, not just some.

Many of our members come to church by themselves.  If you let us know you are coming by calling the office, we can have some one greet you before the service and sit with you.  Being new can be hard, but at St. Peder’s you will get to know other members quickly.

Embracing All With
Open Hands, Open Hearts, Open Doors

We are a church that believes in Jesus, and a church that loves God and all people. We have a heart for authentic worship, are passionate about the local church, and are on mission to see God’s kingdom established across the earth.
